    We are seeking a leader to join our Verona office as a Residential/Retail Underwriting Manager!  This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the underwriting function to ensure all mortgage and retail loans are underwritten efficiently, accurately and within stated timeframes/deadlines while also meeting regulatory, secondary market and in-house guidelines/requirements.   The Residential/Retail Underwriting Manager will oversee all underwriting staff including training, development, coaching and day to day supervision.   Additionally, this role will be a working manager and will work the overflow volume within the underwriting area as needed.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise Underwriting staff while challenging them to look for opportunities to increase efficiencies and utilization of technology.
    • Ensure day to day workflow within area is completed appropriately and efficiently by associates.
      • Maintain an underwriting turnaround time for retail and mortgage loans
      • Identify and implement efficiencies to create a remarkable customer experience
      • Identify most common underwriting conditions and educate staff to minimize number of conditions
    • Manage mortgage and retail underwriting pipelines to generate management reports.
      • Track and report number of files underwritten
      • Provide fallout reports to better understand reasons for loans not closed
    • Be the key resource for the underwriting team for questions from department staff.
    • Underwrite all mortgage and retail loan applications for accuracy, compliance, SBCP loan policy and secondary market guidelines and products as applicable.
    • Analyze title reports, purchase contracts, appraisals, flood certifications and all the supporting documents updating systems accordingly.
    • Maintain knowledge of each private mortgage insurance company’s underwriting guidelines.
    • Receive and review changes to underwriting guidelines.
    • Assist Loan Officers and processors with underwriting questions.

    Qualifications

    • Associates degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Real Estate and/or similar field of education and/or 5 years previous work experience in an underwriting function
    • Previous supervision/management/team lead experience
    • Working knowledge of underwriting requirements for secondary market investors and private mortgage insurance
    • Comprehension of loan documents and required disclosures and all compliance regulations involving TRID, RESPA, etc.
    • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to be able to interact and communicate with a diverse group of customers and associates
    • Strong working knowledge of various mortgage systems and MS Office Suite with the ability and willingness to learn new programs and software.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make good decisions
    • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to prioritize and remain calm while working in a fast-paced/deadline driven environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands in order to meet deadlines while remaining calm under pressure
    • Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up skills and the ability to proof own work as well as others.

    This position is a full time position with hours of 8am – 5pm Monday-Friday.
